KL City Day Run 2009

The toll of travelling to-fro Penang and KL on two weekends took the toll on me. The first trip I drove my parents and brother down to KL to send him off to Melbourne to further his studies. We departed at 5pm on Sunday evening, arrived in KL around 10pm after a 1 hour dinner break in Ipoh. All of my passengers were sick and when I got back to Penang, I too fell sick with fever and a cold. When I was barely recovered, it was time to head to KL again for my sister's graduation. This time I drove my entire family. The trip coincided with the KL City Day Run and since I find it very hard to resist a race, I got Lynn, who then got Frank to help me sign up.
However, as soon as I got into KL, my fever started up again. I then debated with myself whether or not to run. Lynn said she left the decision to me as she knew I would be upset if she didn't allow me to run. My parents adamantly put their foot down about any running with a fever. I started medication again and told myself if by night, if the fever had subsided, that I would run the race. It did and I was happy! So what if both my nose was entire clogged? No fever!
Unfortunately, my parents still put their foot down. So I told them I was going to support my friends while I hid all my running gear in the bag. When I woke up, the fever had return and I wasn't breathing any easier but I knew that I was going to do it no matter what because I had set myself up for the race and not doing it would just make me very sad.
I carpool-ed to the race with Jocelyn and Lynn. At the start, we met Shih Ming and Pui San. Thanks Pui San, for being so concerned about my fever. She kept reminding me not to push too hard before and during the race :).
So, how hard is it to run with a fever and a cold? Pretty challenging but not super tough. I breathe mostly through my mouth and the fever did make me feel feverish at times but all around I pushed as hard as I could (I think) but not good enough an effort because I only finished 10th and damnit... can't get over that two digit finisher's position still.
I wouldn't blame the fever and cold for the bad performance but I will blame myself for being a pansy and not pushing hard enough. The route was overdistance by about 800meters. I took 56:02mins to complete 10.86km. Damnit once again for not being able to achieve a sub-50min 10k run... still.
Lynn however, did SUPERB as always for races and got herself into the 5th position and won herself money and a podium position. Very nice come back from a week's break from running!
Here are some pictures of our power woman (thanks to Tey).

Congrats again, Ribbit!
